No one, in our opinion, does a better job at retelling the exciting and morally ambiguous stories of the Greek gods and goddesses than the D’Aulaires. As those of you who are familiar with their work know, their style of writing and their illustrations are unbeatable at capturing the heart of the stories they tell.
Greek heroes, such as Bellerophon, Theseus, Hercules, and Oedipus also feature and a bridge is made between the mythic and historical with a colorful telling of the Trojan War.
Though this book can stand alone in terms of Greek mythology, one also needs Charles Kovacs’ Ancient Greece to present living pictures of the early history of Greece. Both books are an essential feature of our 5th grade curriculum.
Please note: this book is a component of the Christopherus Fifth Grade Curriculum Package but also stands completely on its own for those not using the full curriculum.
