This play is based on the fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm. It is a delightful, repetitive tale which culminates in a very funny scene where the robber encounters the animals in the dark and thinks that he is being attacked by deadly human foes.

As a play this story is quite simple and is easily adaptable by homeschoolers to fit whatever circumstances they find themselves in. It could be quite an elaborate production with a fairly large cast (just keep adding robbers!). The play could be performed on stage with scenery and full costumes or in someone’s living room with just a few simple cloths to indicate scenery. One could imagine a lovely production of this play outdoors as well!
