Middle Grades (6-8)

From March 2026, specially priced grade bundles will be available.

The videos mentioned below and the eighth grade syllabus will be available to view by March 2026 (if not sooner!).

It took Donna many years to complete the middle grades offerings for homeschoolers: these are the ‘specialty teacher’ years in all Waldorf schools, grades when the class teacher cannot be expected to teach the many different and rigorous subjects which characterize a true Waldorf education. How then can the poor homeschooling parent tackle these grades?!

Donna wanted to bring this rigor and yet make Christopherus/Waldorf middle grades at home doable for the homeschooling parent. We think she has succeeded, and this is what you will find in our 6th, 7th and 8th grade materials:

  • Thoughtful, challenging and inspiring lessons deeply rooted in the therapeutic basis of Waldorf education.
  • Copious amounts of teaching advice, pedagogical information and strategies for various options: the middle grades are the time when each homeschool is absolutely different from every other.
  • Because of the above, Donna gives many options and choices so you can create your own middle grades experience that meets your child and family’s unique needs.
  • The Christopherus middle grades are a holistic journey through various cultures, philosophies, scientific outpouring, religions, countries and eras of human striving. Our lessons, particularly in science, history, geography and language arts, build upon one another from 6th to 7th to 8th grade. This ensures that your child experiences her education as a unity, as a meaningful whole, thus avoiding much of the alienation and despair arising from that which is meaningless and atomistic in most forms of education.
  • There is a great emphasis on preparing for high school (whether at home or in school, whether Waldorf or not) in both our 7th and especially 8th grade materials
  • The lessons are exciting and never dumbed down—they are also never scripted but there is a wealth of teaching advice and help so you can make this work.
  • Additionally, there are audio downloads (for the student) and student workbooks (a hybrid main lesson book and text) to help parents deal with the heavy amount of middle grades  prep yet without us resorting to ‘one-size-fits-all’ scripted curriculum.
  • Donna brings the materials out of her 40 years’ experience with Waldorf and conventional teaching and education. She is able, out of her rich life experience with children and teens, to uniquely bridge any gaps or disparity between conventional and Waldorf methods and philosophies, seamlessly blending the two and giving a parent options where possible.
  • There is a special emphasis throughout all middle grades subjects on the student learning how to find and use material from books so that eventually, when he uses the internet, he won’t get lost! An emphasis in these important years on perseverance, focus and concentration, as well as learning to write both pithy and long essays, and to give focused oral reports, will help with this. Donna’s years as a high school teacher are of great help with this unique Christopherus focus.
  • Lastly, one must never lose sight of the fact that what is Good, True and Beautiful is as important for teens as it is for younger children and so Christopherus middle grades, as with earlier grades, flows from this fountainhead.

We are busy finishing 8th grade and also need to update our 6th grade walk-through video and make an 8th grade walk-through video. All of that will be available by March if not before.
